Growth Without Self
Daily Words of the Buddha for August 06, 2025
Uṭṭhānavato satīmato
sucikammassa nisammakārino,
saññatassa dhammajīvino, appamattassa yasobhivaḍḍhati.
Listen
Ever grows the glory of one
Who is energetic, mindful and pure in conduct,
discerning and self-controlled, righteous and heedful.

The Dhammapada: The Buddha's Path of Wisdom, translated from Pāli by Acharya Buddharakkhita
But then what of anicca, the impermanence,
Sabbe saṅkhāra anicca, All volitional activities impermanent,
Also, the law of conservation of energy,
Because of the growth of glory, forever, in what manner,
Like a candle not forever,
Or a teacher's death too, like a candle one day,
In the same manner a mind free of I, mine, identity or self-view,
Always in the state of growth,
Through the transformation or passage of light from one person to another,
One generation to another,
Even when a candle or such a teacher no longer,
No more in terms of life,
On the path to Nibbāna, no decline,
If any decline, decline of suffering, decline of craving,
Or complete cessation of suffering, craving.
The growth without self.
