Loving-kindness

 

If a monk just for the time of a finger snap, 

Production of a thought of loving-kindness, 

Development of and attention to, 

Rightly a monk, 

Not in vain meditation, actions according to the teaching of the master, 

With the advice of the master, and 

Deserving eating of alms-food of the country, 

How much more so with cultivation beyond?

Thus, loving kindness as the compass, 

Not a magical band, but a strategic paint, 

The wish for happiness and welfare of all, 

With a mind on the path. 

Not just the welfare of one or two, 

Not the just happiness and welfare of all minus some.
